For the past 51 years, Mankato has been flooded with thousands of guests donning purple, gold and perhaps horns during a few glorious weeks of summer.
Vikings Training Camp is coming to Mankato for camp from July 23 to August 8, 2017 and calling us its summer home for the 52nd year. Last year fans came from 28 states, Canada, England, and over 100 different Minnesota cities to watch daily practices and take part in all the fun and fanfare in the Vikings Village.

Show off your purple and gold pride with the 2017 Vikings Training Camp shirt! Shirts can be purchased at the Visitors Center (12 Civic Center Plaza, Suite 1645, Mankato) for $15. Shipping 1-3 shirts is $5; 3-5 shirts is $10; and for orders of more than 5, call us at 507-385-6660 for a quote.
Vikings Spirit Contest
There will also be a Vikings Spirit Contest for local businesses throughout Training Camp. Businesses who choose to participate will deck out their workplaces, offices, employees and more in purple, gold and Vikings spirit galore! The business that bleeds the Vikings colors the proudest will be awarded Vikings memorabilia from Viktor himself, as well as a pizza party for up to 20 people at Jake’s Stadium Pizza and the 2017 title as the business having the Most Vikings Fever.
Timeline for the Vikings Spirit Contest:
-Wednesday, July 26-Monday, July 31: social media voting for top two finalists, along with a wildcard pick by Visit Mankato
-Tuesday, August 1: finalists will be announced on social media
-Friday, August 4: Viktor the Viking do the final judging
-Vikings memorabilia awarded by Viktor himself
-Pizza party for up to 20 people at Jake’s Stadium Pizza
-2017 title as the business having the Most Vikings Fever
-Contest is open to any local business.
-Contestants should submit at least three photos of your decorated business.
-Photo must be of your business decorated for Vikings Training Camp this year.
-Photos must be in color.
-Entrant must be 18 years of age or older.
-Photo content must not contain activity that breaks any laws or endangers any humans or animals.
-Photos must be factually accurate and respectful, unless the intent is satire and that intent is obvious to the average viewer.
-Contestants must follow the SUBMISSION PROCESS to qualify.
-Contestants are responsible for complying with any copyright laws.
-Contestants agree that any submissions can be used by Visit Mankato for promotional purposes without any compensation to the contestant.
-Contestants agree to allow the publication of photos.
-Contest submission period ends at 12 p.m. CST July 25, 2017. Any entries received after this time will not be eligible.
-Photos will then be voted on by the social media community until 5 p.m. CST July 31. Any votes (Facebook likes) received after this time will not be counted. The vote must be for the photo. Likes on the photo album will not be counted.
-The two photos receiving the most votes (Facebook likes) during the contest, along with a wildcard pick by Visit Mankato, and being judged to have complied with all the rules and submission process requirements will be declared finalists.
-The three finalists will be announced on social media August 1.
-Viktor the Viking will do the final judging August 4 and determine the winner.
-Winner will be contacted by Visit Mankato and given further details of the prizes.
-Visit Mankato’s decisions regarding all contest matters are final and non-appealable.
-Winner will receive the above-mentioned prizes.
How the photos will be used:
Photos will be used for the Vikings Spirit Contest by Visit Mankato and for promotional purposes.

Showing some love while the Vikings and fans are in town is a great way to tell them you appreciate their business and have as much Vikings spirit as they do. One way to do this is by displaying messages of welcome throughout Vikings Training Camp. The message can be as simple as “Welcome to the Minnesota Vikings, staff and fans!” or “Skol Vikings!”

As a community, it is important we embrace these fans, jerseys and all, and make them feel welcome in greater Mankato.
The Vikings Training Camp and the fans it brings, has huge economic impact on greater Mankato. Thousands of fans come to Mankato and spend their money in our restaurants, hotels and retail shops. Those fans spend an average of more than $5 million dollars each year in greater Mankato. That is a huge impact on a community of 50,000 people.
Aside from the obvious benefits listed above, there are several other reasons to extend a welcome to our Viking visitors.
There are immeasurable intangible benefits to Vikings Training Camp. Thousands of people experience greater Mankato for the first time when they visit Training Camp. We are confident these initial visits result in many bounce back visits at another time. Once people get to know greater Mankato, the possibility of a return visit is high. So dazzle them while we’ve got them and they just might come back and see us again.
Minnesota State University, Mankato plays host to the Vikings every year. With thousands of potential students visiting Vikings Training Camp each year, this can serve as a tremendous recruiting tool for the university.
Finally, Training Camp has attracted a great deal of media attention over the years. This year there will be even more buzz with Minnesota hosting the 2018 Super Bowl. All of the media attention has put Mankato on the national map. This exposure is immensely valuable to the tourism industry.
